Test and Tag Colours, Everything You Need To Know.
What are the Test and tag colours? What do the colours of the test and tags mean/indicate? Why do the test and tag colours change? These are all very frequently asked questions about that we will answer here.
If your business or appliance that you will be using is not associated with or being used on a construction & demolition industry then the colour of the tag is simply just cosmetic.
For businesses which operate under the AS/NZS 3012;2019 construction and demolition standard, it is key to note that the colour of the tags are important. Within this standard appliances must be tested every 3 months and adhere to the colour code below;
Q1 Red - December, January and February
Q2 Green - March, April and May
Q3 Blue- June, July and August
Q4 Yellow - September, October and November
*The colour of the tags change with the seasons.
The colour of the tag indicates when the appliance was tested. It is commonly mistaken that the appliance requires retesting when the colour changes. This is not the case, the colour of simply identifies the date range that the test was completed.
For example, you can have a red tag on a appliance that was tested in February, appliance tag will still be active for 3 months from the date of the test despite the colour change. It is important to note that builders may have their own risk assessments and policies that are more extensive/comprehensive than above.
