WHAT COLOUR TEST TAG IS IT THIS MONTH?

The current test and tag colour for WA, updated automatically on the first day of each quarter, plus the full month by month schedule

This quarter's colour

Yellow

Yellow tags are used for equipment tested from 1 September to 30 November 2026.

Changes to Red on 1 December 2026.

The colour shows when an item was tested, not when it expires. A tag stays valid for 3 months from its test date, even after the colour changes.

TEST AND TAG COLOUR BY MONTH

WA Construction and Demolition sites follow a quarterly rotation of four colours: Red, Green, Blue and Yellow - often called the RGBY schedule. The colour changes on 1 December, 1 March, 1 June and 1 September.

DOES THE COLOUR APPLY TO YOUR WORKPLACE?

REQUIRED

Construction & Demolition

Sites working under AS/NZS 3012 test every 3 months and tag to the quarterly RGBY colour.

CHECK SITE SULES

Mine Sites & Builders

Many WA mine sites and principle contractors use the same rotation. Some set their own colours or intervals, and their site rules apply.

NOT MANDATED

Office, Retail and Warehouses

Workplaces tested under AS/NZS 3760 have no required tag colour. What matters is the test and retest date on the tag.

DO TAGS NEED REPLACING WHEN THE COLOUR CHANGES?

No, this is the most common mistake we see on Perth sites. The colour marks the quarter an item was tested in. It does not mean the tag expires when the next colour starts. Each tag is valid for 3 months from its own test date.

Example: tested late in the quarter

25 November

Drill is tested and gets a yellow tag

1 December

The colour changes to Red. The Yellow tag is still valid.

25 February

Retest is due, 3 months after the test date

Resting every item on the first day of a new quarter costs money and downtime for no compliance benefit. Schedule retests from the test date on each tag instead.
